After a first quarter in
which both defenses negated the opponent Newcastle struck the first blow. After Rod Petrie ran an interception back to the
Glasgow 1-yardline Newcastles QB Tom Bouch sneaked in the score, with Matt Barton adding the 2PAT on a pass reception. The
scored remained the same till half time. The Tigers struck back immediately with QB Matt Mccusker finding Ian Bertram for
the score. However the ensuing kickoff was returned 91 yards by Rod Petrie for a Raiders TD, with Rich Green adding the PAT.
Glasgow bounced back before the end of the third quarter
When McCusker threw another fine TD pass caught by WR Rob Campbell to set up a tense finale. Newcastle came out in the 4th
and struck what should have been the final blow, LB Jonathan Rooney running the ball back off a fumble recovery 55yds for
the TD to put Newcastle ahead 12-21. The resulting kickoff however was run back 76-yard for a TD by KR Kenny McPhail to bring
the Tigers back into the game. Ryan Garrett added the 2PAT and on the Tigers next drive a 4th down convgersion caught by Ian
Bertram set up McCusker to sneak in from 3 yards, Ryan Garrett converted the 2PAT. A dropped pass in the endzone by Newcastle
as time expired left the Tigers with the victory. |
